meet the makers at red fish art studio
Our team—affectionately known for “making cool sh*t from junk”—is composed of six remarkable individuals exploring the art of craftsmanship, skill building and self-discovery. Coming from diverse backgrounds, they are not just students; they are trailblazers shaping their futures through the transformative power of welding and other employable skills. Driven by creativity and passion, they are crafting more than metal—they are forging brighter futures and leaving a lasting impact in the North. The majority of the materials used come from our metal dump and are reclaimed, including over 1,000 barrels rescued from the landfill and counting!

WELDING INSTUCTOR’S ASSITANT
Age: 23
Nickname: Vern
Favourite thing(s): Spending time with my family and eating food!
Where do you see yourself in the future?
Still learning as many new and different skills as possible and continuing to help others learn and grow. We have made fish already for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, President Joe Biden, many Canadian Senators, Premiers and delegates as well. We have fish on every continent so I suppose President Donald Trump would likely receive a fish in the future LOL!
We asked, what does the program mean to you and what, if anything, would you change?
One thing that keeps me motivated to stay in the program is gaining so much knowledge and experience in skilled labour. There is absolutely nothing I would change about the program.
